Saturday Something's
And we meet again!
Hello there! And we meet again! We are home and back in routine. I think. Who am I kidding, we are toilet training and so life is moving in 20 minute intervals. The timer is set, the beep strikes and we are off to the toilet. He loves it, he hates it, regardless we are making progress. I think. Every single time we’ve potty trained, about day 3 I think ughhh crap I just don’t think they are ready, why don’t we just slap the diaper back on. But in fact they are making progress. Slow and steady, a little better each day. And I realize we are closer now than when we started and must stay the course. Perseverance. My prayer today was perseverance. There is so much going on with all of us, it is a fact, this life is full of troubles but “take heart” the Lord says, “I have overcome the world.” To see something through, to stay the course, that is indeed where growth happens. When we read scripture it says that “tribulation produces, perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.”(Rom 5:3-4)
The beauty and the brunt is that it is in that order things happen. We don’t get to skip ahead to the good character and the hope. Oh how I wish we could. But it is written in that order to remind us that first comes the tribulation, THEN the perseverance, THEN the character, and THEN the hope. It feels good to process these things and remember we are all persevering together in whatever it may be. I pray you are persevering to the Glory of God. How I needed that reminder. The created things on this earth, the mountains, the oceans, the heavens, the rivers, they are made to remind us of our smallness and His greatness. What Truth, Goodness and Beauty that is. Some may say doesn't that make you feel worse about yourself or you circumstances and I would argue, absolutely not!
I heard a quote on the way back from vacation that has really stuck with me. Somebody once told John Bunyan (the author of Pilgrim’s Progress) that he had preached a delightful sermon. “You are too late,” said John, “the devil told me that before I left the pulpit.” The moral, Satan is adept in teaching us how to steal our Master’s glory. Thinking too highly or too lowly of ourselves is a trap. When I can remember the cooking, the child rearing, the marriage, the business- it’s all His grace to us, and done unto Him, then I’ve got it! The tribulation, whatever it happens to be is not going to last forever. James and I were making jokes one night before bed, “remember when one of the boys did so and so and we thought it would never end? They don’t do that anymore.” We were jovially recounting God’s faithfulness in what seem smaller now but were big. fat. deals. at the time. That’s good for the soul stuff!
Speaking of good for the soul stuff, let’s see what’s been happening around these parts.
Garden Flowers in the gathering bag James and the boys got me for Mother’s Day!
A Little Bit of Georgia
A little glimpse into our week in the Georgia Mountains. River time, fishing, lots of food, tubing (talk about perseverance haha), a lake day, the Blue Ridge Train, a home theater movie complete with popcorn, coffee all around and a time full of memories! Thankful to have spent a week together!
White Arctic Nectarine
Our first home grown nectarine, and it was delicious!!! Now don’t be fooled, our nectarine tree produced two nectarines this year… we have only picked 1 thus far and that split 6 ways made for the prefect “taste” of what is to come haha! It really was so yummy and we can’t wait for years of more and more to share!!
Another Week, Another Charcuterie
High on the meat a little low on the veggies this week. It’s always a what we have in the fridge kind of thing! The flowers from our own garden made me and the bees so happy!
Tid-bits
A potty training brother and another reading him his books, a boy and his momma coordinating and we didn’t even know it until late afternoon, a cheesy toddler grin that melts me, and yummy beans from the garden.
Cheers to the weekend!
xoxo
